The Gujarat police on Tuesday arrested two farmers for allegedly causing the death of an Asiatic lioness by electrocution.

The carcass of the lioness was found a couple of days ago and the post-mortem report revealed that death was caused by electrocution.

The two farmers, arrested from a village near Una on the outskirts of the Gir sanctuary, confirmed that they had installed live electric wire around their farmland to protect it from wild animals straying outside the lion sanctuary. The lioness was accidentally caught on the live wire and was killed, the police said.
