Leopard killed in road mishap near Una

A leopard, which strayed out of the forest region, was killed in a road accident on Una-Bhavnagar highway near Una town in Junagadh district, police said on Tuesday.

The mishap took place on Monday night when the animal was run over by a vehicle last night, they said. For past few days, people in the outskirts of Una have been spotting a leopard roaming in the area, they said. Residents in the town outskirts have requested the forest department to take preventive measures to safeguard wild animals from getting killed on highways.

The Gir sanctuary at Junagadh houses 411 Asiatic lions and large number of leopards that are found in the area.
