Range forest office Visawadar in Gir(W) found two cubs, about 2 months old, inside the forest area near Meldi Aye check post. Officials have informed that cubs may be abondened by mother wanting to mate with a male. Forest staff are searching for Lioness mother and in the mean while are nursing the cubs.

The reason being given that a Lioness having two cubs, about 2 months old 'wanting to mate' does not sound logical. Usually, a lioness does not come in to heat until her cubs are self dependant. Experts may know more in this regard. Hope that they will not hesitate in giving their opinion.

Department should not jump on such conclusions which do not sound logical even to mind of a layman like me. They may go for thorough and more scientific/logical investigation for the reason why cubs are abandoned by their mother.
