Junagadh, April 6: Chief Minister Narendra Modi made an unscheduled landing at Sasan Gir, the headquarters of Gir Lion sanctuary, on Friday evening to review the situation following the two poaching incidents here last month.
Meanwhile, at least eight persons belonging to Katni and Panna district of Madhya Pradesh have been detained on Friday in Una Taluka of Junagadh district in connection with the two poaching incidents in the Gir Lion Sanctuary on March 1 and March 30.
Sources said, these eight were picked up on suspicion of being involved in the poaching cases in the Gir Sanctuary.
The police and forest department officials have also recovered some nails and traps during the raids. The police are trying to verify if the seized nails belong to the lions. Meanwhile, a team of CID(crime) is on its way to Katni and Panna districts for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the CM who landed at the Sasan helipad on Friday spent a few minutes at Sinh-Sadan Forest Guesthouse and was then driven into the Gir forest.
Senior Forest Department officials who were informed of the CM’s visit at the last moment were caught by surprise when they were called for a meeting at the Sinh Sadan Guest house. Sources said the the CM was apprised of the prevailing situation in Gir.
